Join us for an in-depth, in-gallery discussion with Maren Hassinger about her work Wrenching News, created in response to Hurricane Katrina s aftermath, to learn about its original context and its present-day relevance.

Hassinger will also discuss her 40-year career as an artist and educator.

Maren Hassinger (b. 1947, Los Angeles; lives New York, NY) earned a BA from Bennington College in Vermont and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, she began making sculptures with bent, twisted, and frayed wire rope. She also created and participated in numerous performances in Los Angeles. Since 1997, Hassinger has been director of the Rinehart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
