Join us for a night of music and cultural exploration as the Jasmine Ensemble performs a collection of classical Chinese dulcimer pieces.
The performance will last approximately 90 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
Jasmine Ensemble is the first Yangqin ensemble in China that showcases classical Chinese and Western pieces in the form of an ensemble. On August 24, 2008 the closing day of the Beijing Olympic Games Jasmine debuted at the Concert Hall of National Center for the Performing Arts, where they were invited to perform a concert named What a Beautiful Jasmine Flower. Shortly thereafter, they released their first album, titled Jasmine in Blossoms.
Under the guidance of the Art Director, PhD supervisor Prof. Liu Yuening, Jasmine Ensemble has won the top award (national instruments group) at the 16th Osaka International Music Competition, as well as the Golden prize (professional group) at the 1st International Dulcimer Music Festival at Eastman School of Music, among other high-level awards. They have issued their second and third albums, titled Jasmine in Fragrance and Sleepless Night New Classics of Jasmine Ensemble, as well as an ensemble works publication. Additionally, Jasmine has taken part in the recording of the world's first Chinese/English bilingual textbook series, Easy Steps to Chinese Music (yangqin section), featuring the overseas promotion of Chinese music as well as the CCTV feature Fenghua Guoyue (beautiful Chinese music).
On March 15, 2015, Jasmine Ensemble started its series lectures and performances themed around Fusion and Development with Jasmine in Fragrance. By now, the ensemble has visited 10 countries in Europe, Asia and North America, held a dozen concerts at home and abroad and premiered a dozen originally-composed and arranged ensemble pieces, sharing Yangqin ensemble music with the world. In June 2018, Jasmine Ensemble started their series performances for their tenth anniversary with a concert themed around Jasmine in Fragrance. In the fall of 2018, Jasmine traveled west to Tehran and cooperated with Iranian Santur on a finding their roots tour. The ancient echoes of the silk road played by harmonic strings received wide favor and broad acclaim from the audiences of the places they have visited.
