Food. Music. Art. Dance. Culture. History. All in the heart of DC! Syria Fest returns to Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC on September 2!
Following the success of the first-ever Syria Fest in 2017, the Syrian Cultural House (SCH), a nonprofit based in the Greater Washington, D.C. area, is bringing the music, art, food and culture of Syria back to Freedom Plaza on September 2. Syria Fest promises to take visitors on a memorable and colorful journey through one of the world s oldest heritages and histories.
In a grassroots-led effort to reintroduce Syria, Syrian culture, and the Syrian people to the American public, SCH volunteers organized the first-ever Syria Fest in 2017, seeking to preserve, showcase, and spotlight Syrian food, music, dance, art, and history. Syria Fest 2017 ultimately brought thousands of people to Freedom Plaza and the surrounding area who had the chance to experience Syrian culture and engage with Syrian-Americans, Syrian immigrants and recently-arrived Syrian refugees.
Syria Fest 2018 builds on the success of the 2017 festival and provides an unprecedented opportunity to bring the essence of Syria back to Washington D.C. through delicious delicacies like sizzling shawerma and mouth-watering halawit al-jibn made by local Syrian businesses, mesmerizing folkloric dances and charming musical notes in an all-day stage program, artisans showcasing their intricate and traditional crafts and merchandise, and engaging activity tents that provide participants with a hands-on opportunity to interact with Syria s culture.
